Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka have officially taken office as Indonesia’s President and Vice President for the 2024-2029 term. The inauguration ceremony took place during a plenary session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Jakarta. With Prabowo Subianto now serving as Indonesia’s 8th president, how much will he earn in official salary?

Presidential Salary in Indonesia

According to Law No. 7 of 1978 concerning the Financial and Administrative Rights of the President and Vice President, the salary of the President of Indonesia is set at six times the base salary of the highest-ranking state official, excluding the president and vice president. Meanwhile, the Vice President’s salary is set at four times the salary of the highest-ranking state official.

For reference, top state officials such as the Speaker of the DPR and MPR earn a base salary of Rp5.04 million (approximately $320) per month.

Salary Breakdown for President and Vice President

  • President’s salary: Rp30.24 million per month (6 x Rp5.04 million)
  • Vice President’s salary: Rp20.16 million per month (4 x Rp5.04 million)

Allowances for the President and Vice President

In addition to their base salaries, both the President and Vice President receive substantial monthly allowances, significantly boosting their overall compensation:

  • President’s allowance: Rp32.5 million per month
  • Vice President’s allowance: Rp22 million per month

Total Monthly Compensation

When combining their salaries and allowances, Prabowo Subianto, as President, receives a total of Rp62.7 million per month (approximately $4,000), while Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as Vice President, earns Rp42.16 million per month (around $2,700).

Cabinet Ministers’ Salaries

President Prabowo has also appointed several ministers and deputy ministers to form his administration, named the “Merah Putih Cabinet.” The cabinet consists of seven coordinating ministers, 48 ministers, and 56 deputy ministers. The salaries for these high-ranking officials are stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 68 of 2001, concerning position allowances for certain state officials.

For ministers and equivalent officials:

  • Monthly base salary: Rp5.04 million
  • Position allowance: Rp13.6 million

With their inauguration complete, the new government team is set to begin their term, focusing on national priorities and governance for the next five years.
