BANGKOK SEATIZENS –British authorities have asked Thai police to arrest British nationals smuggling cannabis to the UK. The criminals recruit people via Telegram, offering free trips to Thailand and pocket money in exchange for smuggling cannabis. This scheme has led to a sharp rise in cannabis seizures in the UK, with authorities reporting hundreds of kilograms smuggled from Thailand this year.
According to Bangkok ,The Thai Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) is investigating these activities. Authorities found a parcel labeled as a dietary supplement, which contained 210 grams of a precursor for ecstasy. Police also seized 36kg of cannabis and packaging materials from two suspects, a British man and a Dutch national, who had been in Thailand for four months. The two suspects planned to ship the cannabis in parcels labeled as pillows. Narcotics police believe these parcels were intended for the UK, where the cannabis would be distributed. Officials said other people from Britain and other countries were also recruited via Telegram to smuggle cannabis, hiding the drugs in their luggage to bypass visa requirements.
