BANGKOK SEATIZENS –Plans for a one-year closure of the overpass connecting Rama IX, Asoke-Din Daeng, and Phang Mueang intersections are being reconsidered due to traffic concerns. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reevaluated the plan after criticism from road users. The closure, starting December 1, would include 24-hour closures of certain sections and a full closure once repairs at Khlong Tan Intersection are completed by June 2025

According to thethaiger, The Metropolitan Police Bureau has advised avoiding roads in Din Daeng and Huai Khwang districts due to scheduled repairs starting November 30. The BMA is working with the police to minimize disruptions, but ongoing road projects in these congested areas raise concerns about worsening traffic. The BMA is exploring ways to renovate the overpass with minimal impact on traffic.
The closure is planned in phases, starting with the inbound lanes and followed by the outbound lanes, each for six months. Additional road diversions caused by the construction of the Orange Line by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) could further exacerbate traffic congestion at the Rama IX intersection. Local authorities are closely evaluating the situation to find the best solution for both traffic flow and the necessary infrastructure improvements.
