Thai PM Paetongtarn’s visit to APEC strengthens ties between Thailand and Peru.

Bangkok Seatizens : Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s participation in the 31st APEC summit in Lima, Peru, is expected to strengthen Thailand-Peru ties and advance the APEC framework, according to Cecilia Zunilda Galarreta Bazan, Peru’s ambassador to Thailand. This visit marks PM Paetongtarn’s first trip to Latin America since taking office.

According to Thaiger : Galarreta elaborated on the collaboration between Thailand and Peru within the APEC framework, as reported by the Bangkok Post. Both countries actively work towards economic growth benefiting all global economy members, aligning with APEC 2024 objectives. Thailand has supported Peru’s leadership from the start, contributing to various initiatives. High-level Thai officials have attended key APEC meetings, underscoring their solid partnership. Galarreta highlighted the strong ties and shared commitment to promoting prosperity and sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

Peru Draws Lessons from Thailand’s 2022 APEC Chairmanship

The ambassador reflected on Thailand’s chairmanship in 2022, noting that Peru had drawn valuable lessons from it. These insights informed Peru’s approach to hosting the APEC summit this year. Peru highly regarded Thailand’s leadership, especially on issues aligning with Peru’s priorities for 2024.

Both nations aim to foster an APEC environment that seizes opportunities by dismantling trade barriers, deepening economic integration, harnessing digitalization and innovation, and promoting inclusive and sustainable growth. Thailand’s chairmanship in 2022 focused on environmental issues under the theme Open. Connect. Balance.

“In this context, beyond the approved policy guidelines for developing and implementing roadmaps on clean and low-carbon hydrogen, the BCG Award will be presented for the second time at the APEC ministerial meeting on November 14,” she added. “The awards will honor achievements across three categories: women, men, and youth, for implementing replicable BCG economy approaches.”
