BANDUNG, SEATIZENS – An Israeli airstrike has recently destroyed a historical building near the ancient Baalbek Castle in eastern Lebanon.
Local governor Bachid Khodr confirmed that the attack on Wednesday (November 6) completely obliterated the structure known as Manshieh.
Manshieh is significant as it is located in a heritage site from the Ottoman era.
“This building is extremely important because it forms part of the cultural and historical heritage of this region,” Khodr stated to Anadolu.
Furthermore, he noted that the airstrike occurred very close to Baalbek Castle, which features majestic architecture.
“We will conduct further inspections to determine whether any damage occurred inside the castle,” Governor Khodr continued by saying.
Baalbek Castle, known as Heliopolis in ancient times, is rich in history. Historical records indicate that this castle served as a religious center for the Roman god Jupiter.

Meanwhile, an official from Lebanon’s Ministry of Culture, who wished to remain anonymous, provided a statement.
“One of the Israeli airstrikes has destroyed the historical building of Manshieh,” they told Anadolu.
Additionally, this official explained that the ministry recognizes the building as a remnant of the Ottoman era, which dominated the Levant from 1516 to 1918.
Frequent Airstrikes Haunting Baalbek
Moreover, the city of Baalbek, often referred to as the “Sun City,” is renowned for its splendid archaeological sites, most of which originate from the Roman period.
In recent weeks, Baalbek has frequently faced Israeli airstrikes. The local community mourns this situation, as it not only damages infrastructure but also obliterates valuable cultural heritage.
This city, famous for structures like the Temple of Jupiter and the Temple of Bacchus, reflects ancient Roman glory.
Thus, further destruction of such significant sites will have a profound impact on the cultural heritage cherished by both Lebanon and the international community.
