BANGKOK SETIZENS—Police Colonel Surapong Kittithirangkul, former superintendent in Songkhla, has filed a lawsuit against a lawyer and a deceased police officer for extortion, claiming they demanded over 10 million baht. The complaint was lodged on October 17 at Thung Tam Sao Police Station in Hat Yai.

According to thethaiger The case involves two incidents from 2018 and 2019. In August 2018, lawyer Ch. and the late Police Captain W. accused the patrol police head of filing a false drug charge. The accusation gained media attention, leading to an investigation. The lawyer and officer allegedly demanded 5 million baht to halt proceedings and stop negative media coverage. The patrol head refused to pay, and the court dismissed the case.

Despite the passage of time and the death of Captain W., Surapong is now pursuing legal action for conspiracy to extort. The police station has accepted the case and assured a fair investigation.

This lawsuit shows Surapong’s determination to seek justice for the alleged extortion and public smear campaigns orchestrated against him.
