BANGKOK, SEATIZENS – A sexual and physical assault at KL Club, a Chinese-owned nightclub in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district, has sparked serious corruption allegations against the local police superintendent. Autchariya Ruengrattanapong, President of the Crime Victim Assistance Association, urges the newly appointed Royal Thai Police (RTP) Commissioner, Kittirat “Big Tai” Phanphet, to investigate. This demand follows a report from a Chinese man who experienced an attack and extortion at the nightclub, popular among Chinese tourists.

Escalation of Violence Following Inadvertent Incident
According to Thethaiger,The incident intensified when a Chinese man accidentally groped a woman while navigating the club, leading to a confrontation. After he apologized and offered the woman 10,000 baht, a group of six men assaulted him outside, resulting in serious injuries. Autchariya suspects that the attackers felt emboldened, possibly due to bribery from the nightclub’s owner, who has a history of involvement in a drug raid at a different venue.
Police Superintendent Denies Wrongdoing Amid Ongoing Advocacy for Accountability
In response to these allegations, Superintendent Prasopchok Iam-pinit of the Huai Khwang Police Station has denied any wrongdoing, asserting that his team has already handled the case appropriately. The attackers are facing charges of physical assault and extortion, while the nightclub’s owner and manager are being charged for operating illegally and selling alcohol beyond legal hours. Prasopchok has ordered the KL Club to close for five years and confirmed that the Chinese complainant faced consequences for his actions within the establishment. Autchariya remains steadfast in advocating for a comprehensive investigation into the corruption claims and demands accountability from the club and its operators.
