Climbers rescued after three days on mountain

INDIA, SEATIZENS – Fay Manners from Bedfordshire and Michelle Dvorak from the US were stranded on Chaukhamba mountain in India after losing their supplies. They survived two days in harsh conditions before being rescued. Manners described their ordeal as terrifying, especially during their solo descent attempt before help arrived.

According to BBC, Fay Manners, an alpinist living in Chamonix, France, felt despair when a loose rock cut their rope, causing their supplies to fall. Left without safety gear, they sent an emergency text and were eventually rescued. They had no tent, stove, warm clothes, or head torch.

The women shared a sleeping bag in the snow, feeling hypothermic. A helicopter couldn’t find them due to bad weather and fog, leaving them stranded for another 24 hours.

Climbers Survive Brutal Conditions, Rescued

After abseiling to some melting ice, Fay Manners and Michelle Dvorak managed to collect a little water. They barely survived the storm that afternoon and spent a second night in the cold with no food. The helicopter flew past again but couldn’t see them, leaving them devastated. Realizing they had to descend on their own, they began cautiously abseiling down the rock spur the next morning, aware that their weakened state could lead to mistakes. Despite the brutal conditions, they persevered, determined to reach safety as the helicopter was unable to assist them.

Rescue Team Saves Stranded Climbers

French climbers, alerted by mutual friends, found the women and shared their equipment, food, and sleeping bags. They contacted the helicopter with their exact location. Ms. Manners cried with relief, knowing they might survive. The climbers helped them cross a steep glacier, which would have been impossible without proper gear.
